Ferrari Testarossa · 1984–1991

The Testarossa answered the Countach with a 390-horsepower flat-12 and the most unmistakable shape of the 1980s, its wide side strakes feeding rear-mounted radiators that cured the Berlinetta Boxer's hot cabin. Early Monospecchio cars, with a single high door mirror and, on the very first cars, single-nut center-lock wheels, are the ones that lead the market.

The one to have: An early Monospecchio (1984 to 1986): single high-mounted door mirror, and on the earliest cars the single-nut 'monodado' center-lock wheels, ideally low-mileage, matching-numbers and Classiche certified. Rare factory colors add a premium over Rosso.

Know the real one

Pininfarina design under Leonardo Fioravanti. The signature side strakes (the '80s 'cheese grater') feed twin rear-mounted radiators, moving the heat away from the cabin that plagued the earlier Berlinetta Boxer.
'Monospecchio' means the single, high-mounted door mirror of 1984-86 cars; the very earliest also wore single-nut 'monodado' knock-off center-lock wheels. Later cars adopted twin mirrors and conventional five-bolt wheels.
The 4.9-litre flat-12 (a 180-degree V12) drives through a five-speed gated manual for roughly 180 mph, making it one of the fastest cars of its era and, thanks in part to Miami Vice, a defining 1980s icon.
7,177 Testarossas were built 1984-1991 before the 512 TR and F512 M evolutions; early low-mile Monospecchio cars and rare-color Classiche-certified examples lead, while driver-grade higher-mile cars stay affordable.
