The Superleggera is the lightweight, carbon-clad version of the first-generation Gallardo — a 5.0-litre, 523 hp naturally aspirated V10 stripped of 100 kg through carbon-fibre body panels, sports seats and titanium hardware. It's the hardcore send-off for the original even-firing V10 before the 5.2-litre LP560 facelift, and the no-cost 6-speed gated manual is the configuration collectors now chase.
The one to have: A 2007–2008 first-generation 5.0 Superleggera with the no-cost 6-speed gated manual (a low-single-digit share of all Gallardos; VIN position 8 = "N"). Short of a manual, a low-mileage US-market e-gear car in Giallo Midas or Arancio Borealis with carbon-ceramic brakes and the fixed carbon high wing.
Two distinct cars share the name: 2007–2008 first-gen (4.96 V10, 523 hp/530 PS, 618 built worldwide, 172 US) and 2010–2013 LP570-4 (5.2 V10, 562 hp/570 PS). Both drop ~70–100 kg vs the base Gallardo to a dry weight near 1,330–1,340 kg via exposed carbon diffuser, undertray, mirrors, engine cover and a fixed carbon rear wing.
E-gear paddle-shift was standard; the 6-speed gated manual was a no-cost option almost nobody ordered — roughly 3% of all Gallardos are manual, and the gated car is effectively a first-gen-only proposition (LP570-4 Superleggeras are e-gear). VIN position 8 reads 'N' for manual.
Genuine-car tells: Sparco carbon bucket seats, alcantara dash and door pulls, white-faced gauges, lightweight wheels and Superleggera rocker script. A 'Superleggera' badge over a leather interior, body-colour mirrors and no carbon panels is a re-trimmed standard Gallardo, not the real thing.
