The Carrera GT is the only road Porsche built around a naturally aspirated 5.7-litre V10 — a race-derived, 8,400-rpm engine descended from abandoned Le Mans and F1 prototype programs, bolted to a carbon monocoque and a beechwood-knobbed manual. It's the last purely analog Porsche flagship, with no stability control and a small, demanding ceramic clutch.
The one to have: 5.7L V10, 6-speed gated manual with the standard beechwood shift knob (a 917 homage), in GT Silver over Ascot Brown or a documented Paint-to-Sample color, sub-5,000 miles with full books, tools, and matching luggage.

Know the real one
1,270 built of a planned 1,500; 5.7L V10 rooted in a secret 1992 Footwork F1 engine and a cancelled Le Mans prototype program, 603 hp to an 8,400 rpm redline. Sole gearbox is a 6-speed manual - no automatic, no paddle option ever offered. 644 went to the US, 31 to Canada.
The laminated beechwood shift knob is a 917 homage and was standard across the production run - it is the signature detail buyers chase, so verify its condition and originality against the build sheet.
The ceramic composite (PCCC) twin-plate clutch is the known money pit - a slipping or replaced clutch and its service history are the first things to verify; a botched clutch job is a five-figure fix.
Five standard colors (GT Silver, Guards Red, Basalt Black, Fayence Yellow, Seal Grey); Paint-to-Sample cars are scarce - roughly 19 delivered through Porsche North America - and carry a heavy premium, so demand the window sticker to confirm original paint.
